The 3 Tools I Use to Curl My Hair

One of the number one questions I get all the time is “How do you curl your hair?” While it’s definitely not something I’ve perfected, it’s definitely something I love to do! Depending on what look I’m going for, I use one of three tools to achieve my look. Below I’m breaking down each of my three looks and the tool I use to achieve it!

Defined Curls

When I’m looking for curl that won’t quit, a straightener is the way to go! I know this seems counterintuitive but using a straightener is actually the best way to get a tight curl that won’t fall out any time soon. My favorite straightener to use is this one by Amika. It’s the one my hair stylist uses on my hair so I know I can trust it to be good! Be careful to not pull on your hair when using a straightener and be sure to use a good heat protectant. This one is my fav to use on dry hair!

Waves

When I’m looking for a looser, less defined curl, I use my curling iron as a wand! Of course you could just use a wand, but I like to have the option of using the traditional curling iron too! No curling iron comes to close to be as good as my T3 one! I love how shiny it leaves my hair and having it be pink doesn’t hurt either! Texture or volume spray is always good with this style, here’s my favorite! Also again, make sure you’re using heat protectant!

Barely There Bends

When I’m looking for just the slightest hint of movement on my hair, I always turn to Big Bertha. While that’s not the actual name of my Kristen Ess curling iron, it’s what I lovingly call it because it’s SO big. This is definitely the look I haven’t mastered fully yet but be sure to check out Kristen’s instagram for tutorials!
