Hair FAQ: Part Two

This is the second part of a two part post. In this post I’ll cover all the tools and products I use. In the first post I covered all the FAQs on care, coloring, length, etc. You can read it here.

Hands down the thing I get asked most about is my hair. Even before I started a blog I got so many questions about my hair online, in person, etc. How do I care for it? How do I get it to curl? What do I do keep the brassiness out? What are my hair secrets? So today I’m answering all of the most frequently asked questions about my hair!

What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I have a very sensitive scalp so I have to be really picky with the types of shampoos and conditioners I use. And even after I find one I like, I’ll eventually have to switch to a different one once my scalp gets too used to it. That being said, I LOVE what I’m currently using! On the recommendation of my stylist, I’m using Amika Normcore Shampoo and Amika The Kure Conditioner. I’m obsessed with the smell of Amika products – it is seriously sooooo good!

What do you use for your sensitive scalp?

Currently my go-to product when my scalp is acting up is Kristin Ess Scalp Purifying Micellar Shampoo. This gets my hair squeaky clean and is a good reset after using too much dry shampoo that week.

Speaking of dry shampoo, what are your favorites?

I have three that I rotate between just depending on what is on sale when I need more. The holy grail dry shampoo will always be Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo. Nothing ever works quite like it does – no white residue whatsoever. I usually stock up on this during sales. My other two favorites which I actually use more often are Kristen Ess Style Reviving Dry Shampoo and Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo.

Do you have a favorite conditioning treatment?

Yes! I definitely recommend using a conditioning treatment every so often, especially if you color your hair! My favorite is Kristin Ess Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Moisture Mask. It leaves my hair so soft but not greasy!

What do you use to combat brass?

I love the bright blondes in my hair but naturally my hair really likes to pull brassy. I’ve tried a BUNCH of purple products but nothing works better on my hair than Kristin Ess The One Purple Shampoo. I was never a believer in purple shampoo until I tried this one! Seriously the only thing that works – but make sure you follow the directions on the bottle!

Favorite brush?

Getting a wet brush was LIFE CHANGING for me. My hair gets so tangly and using a wet brush, plus this detangler is all I need!

What do you use to style your hair?

I usually use a wand to style my hair – specifically this one because it pivots in half so it’s not as tiring to hold it up. But more recently I’ve been trying to learn to curl my hair with a straightener as I like the curls more and they last longer! I just got this straightener and so far I am LOVING it. But I’m still learning to curl! I don’t actually straighten my hair with it though, my hair dries straight on it’s own.
